About Us
The Pakistan Society for Immunology (PSI) is a pioneering platform which was formed in 2011, with a view to enhance the knowledge about Immunologic diseases in Pakistan and to encourage further development of expertise in this field.
It took its roots from the select group of pioneers including Professor Rabia hussain, Brigadier Tahir Aziz Ahmad & Professor Rana Muzaffar who were formally trained in this field and took upon themselves the responsibility of establishing Immunology services in Pakistan. While Professor Rabia Hussain furthered the basic and clinical research at Agha Khan University at Karachi and Professor Rana Muzaffar established the tissue typing services at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant, Karachi, it was Brigadier Tahir Aziz Ahmad who finally founded the national fellowship residency program in Immunology leading to the recognition of Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rawalpindi, as the first institute fully recognised for such training in 1996 followed by Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant, Karachi, in 2004.
Even though initially the academic and research activities within Pakistan remained confined to sporadic meetings in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, people like Professor Rabia hussain, Brigadier Tahir Aziz Ahmad & Professor Rana Muzaffar kept the beacon of hope alive from and within Pakistan.
